About Me

|
My name is Andy Goodwin.  I'm 31 years old - happily married - and live in a suburb of Chicago.

Personal Stuff:

  • I like to cook.  I have gotten quite good at some things, and I don't do too well with others.  I'm an avid fan of the food network, and I like Alton Brown and Bobby Flay.
  • I have recently started getting into indoor gardening and hydroponics.
  • I have pet birds.  I have a quaker parrot, and a senegal parrot.
  • I watch too much TV and play too much Playstation 3.  I also have a Nintendo Wii.
  • I take an interest in politics - yet its a difficult subject to talk rationally about with some people.  Against my pre-adult political programming, I personally like Barack Obama.  I like the change he stands for, and I won't fall into the you-cant-change-government resignation that many fall into and accept the corruption and game that discourages the general public.
Work/Professional:

  • Most of my background is in the UNIX/server/network world.  I am currently an Application Engineer at a large internet site.
  • I do programming.  Some people don't think PHP is programming, but I also do C.
  • I host/manage a few servers of my own, for the purpose of website and DNS hosting.
  • I also sell voice over IP on the side.  Asterisk is great!
Contact:

  • Email: andyg@unf.net.  Unfortunately, this email address gets a crapload of spam - so sometimes responses aren't quick.
  • AOL IM (AIM): paradigmmshift
  • Yahoo: kingpdm
  • MSN: misterpdm@hotmail.com
  • Myspace: My profile is here.  I like myspace because of the connections and the old friends that have come out of the past, however, its myspace.

New Blog

|
So, I have decided to go back to a blog (instead of the couch picture of me).  I've been wanting a better platform to post/share things, and while I'm a bit fanatical about wanting to code it all myself, it seems some things are better left to others.

I have chosen Movable Type over Wordpress (booooo, perl over PHP!?), but while I code PHP all day and really detest Perl (reasons belonging in another post), I rather like how Movable Type uses the database to publish static files.  Plus, the back-end interface is really snazzy!

As for this blog, I have a bunch of PHP code snippets, some lessons/things I've learned over the years, and just general geek info I want to share with the world.  Everybody has big goals for their little blog to be read by many - I just want to have a nice repository for all these snippets/things I've learned/hacked up in the past.

Stay tuned!
